hi, i am on disability and i spoke with a rep from a firm you recommended and he advised me to simply close the acccounts and stop paying them. is this a real option? he says i don’t have enough for debt settlement even if i wanted to. i do not like the idea of just blowing these companies off but i can’t afford to pay them either. i am confused, should i try or just cry mercy and give up? he said they can’t sue me because i am on ss disability, is this true? any advice would be appreciated thanks

Sorry to hear about your situation. I suggest that you speak to a non-profit credit counseling agency to see what they say. They are often very helpful at providing guidance. You can find them by doing an online search or I’d be able top refer one to you if I know where you lived by completing the form at the bottom of this page. They are typically only able to work in various states depending on where they are licensed.

However, if your income cannot support your payments (even the lowered ones provided by debt settlement) then a debt relief company cannot assist you. They need you to be able to make a steady stream of monthly payments. In this case, you should try and reach out to a bankruptcy lawyer or government agency like the social security disability office to see what your legal options are for your situation.

I hope that helps.
