Most debt relief programs affect your credit score (especially debt settlement) so I would not put your kids college future in jepardy by enrolling in a debt relief program if you can avoid it. In order to get some budgeting help and to see if you can avoid it given your situation, you may want to speak with a reputable non-profit credit counseling agency.

They are required to assist you as a non-profit and while they do offer what’s called a debt management program, you will not be required to enroll in it just by seeking out their assistance.
